YouTube Launches 5 New Tools to Elevate TV Viewing

Transforming the Living Room into Prime Time

YouTube is rolling out a suite of new creator tools aimed at making every video shine on the biggest screen in the home — the TV. The platform says living-room viewing is booming, with the number of channels earning six figures or more from TV screens rising by over 45% in the past year. To capitalize on that momentum, YouTube is giving creators five ways to enhance video quality, boost discoverability, and make shopping more seamless.

Sharper Visuals and Smarter Resolution

A key update focuses on visual presentation. Thumbnails — often a viewer’s first impression — will soon support up to 50MB files, enabling stunning 4K-resolution previews. YouTube is also testing larger video uploads with select creators to support higher-quality content from the start.

Another major feature uses AI-powered upscaling to automatically enhance lower-resolution videos. Initially, clips uploaded below 1080p will be boosted to HD quality, with 4K upscaling coming soon. Creators maintain full control, keeping original files intact and having the option to opt out. Viewers, meanwhile, can choose between the original resolution or the new “super resolution” option, which will be clearly labeled in settings.

A More Immersive Channel Experience

Beyond individual videos, YouTube is reimagining the channel experience on TV. A redesigned homepage will now feature immersive previews that allow users to flip through favorite creators’ content more intuitively. The new Shows layout lets creators group videos into binge-worthy seasons — giving audiences a streaming-style viewing experience.

Search is also getting smarter. When viewers initiate a search from a creator’s channel page, that creator’s videos will now appear first, preventing them from getting buried among unrelated results across the platform.

From Couch to Checkout

YouTube’s integration of shopping experiences continues to expand, especially on TV. Over the past 12 months, viewers have watched 35 billion hours of shopping-related videos — a growing portion of them in the living room. To turn that engagement into action, YouTube will soon allow viewers to scan QR codes during tagged videos, instantly opening product pages on their phones.

Additionally, creators will be able to feature products at specific moments in their videos, helping audiences act on inspiration right when interest peaks. The goal: eliminate friction between watching and buying, while helping creators increase conversions and build stronger brands from the TV screen.

Optimizing for Every Screen

As YouTube’s Head of TV Experience noted, “The TV screen is our fastest-growing surface, and we’re committed to delivering features that make creator content shine.” With these updates, creators can film and upload once, confident that their work will look exceptional — from mobile devices to 4K televisions.
